Why a trauma therapist started a clean personal and home product brand

Fifteen thousand hours in a room with people who couldn't rest.

That's what eleven years as a trauma therapist adds up to. I'm Jenifer. I'm trained in EMDR and Somatic Experiencing — which sounds complicated, but really just comes down to listening to a nervous system very, very closely. And when you do that for eleven years, you start noticing what keeps coming up.

Here's what kept coming up.

People who were doing everything right. Who'd done the work, faced the hard things, made real progress — and still couldn't rest, turn off, or feel good in their body. You know the feeling. Tired but wired. Bracing your way through the day. Just going through the motions.

And most of them had stopped calling it anything. It was just… how they were now.

I kept coming back to this idea of load.

Because your nervous system isn't only responding to what happens to you. It's responding to everything you hand it to deal with — and an ordinary day hands your body a lot it never agreed to. The fragrance in your lotion. Whatever's left in your clothes after the laundry. The thing plugged into the wall that says "fresh" on it.

Any one of those on its own won't overload your body. But it's never just one.

And I couldn't give my clients a different childhood. Or a different job, or a different week. But I'd think about the shelf in their bathroom and think — okay. That part is choosable. That's a load someone can actually put down.

So I started making the things I wished I could send home with them.

Alchemē started on my kitchen counter, with one question I still ask of every formula before anything else: what is this asking your body to carry? If the answer is anything at all, I don't make it. Short lists. Real ingredient names. Nothing to decode, nothing to defend against.

I didn't come to this from a lab or a marketing plan. I came to it from the chair across from yours. Alchemē is really just the therapy room, extended.

You've already carried enough. What you put on your skin and use in your home shouldn't make you sick.

The time to thrive is now. Own your health. Own your life.
